Hello lovely readers

Firstly I would like to start by welcoming any new subscribers. You have found your way to the newsletter for Danielle Hughes ~ author and self-publisher of fantasy and fairytales for middle grade and young adult readers. If you like your stories full of magic, mystery, adventure and a dash of romance, you’re in the right place!
Oh, and did I mention the free books? (Link below)

Every month I participate in several book promotions, most of them are free, some are to highlight new reads available on Kindle and other eBook platforms. If you have accessed a free copy of one of my books and read it, I would absolutely be thrilled if you could leave me a review on Amazon or Goodreads. In return, I’ll happily keep providing you access to free books, and keep you updated on any new releases or signing events I have coming up.
The hardest thing as an indie author is finding readers and gaining exposure. Your support is unbelievably important and helpful, and so very appreciated. The complete Mystica Trilogy is available on Kindle Unlimited, and soon so will The Princess and the Fawn.

Author Support
Are you a writer or aspiring author hoping to one day publish your own books? Last month I asked if you would like me to start sharing my best tips and advice on writing and publishing, and many of your reached out and said yes. From now on, at the end of each newsletter, I’ll add some thoughts on what works for me, and hopefully can be helpful for you on your writing and publishing journey.
My first bit of advice for anyone, whether you want to be traditionally or self-published, is the best advice I’ve ever received in my career. It came from the legendary and all round nice guy, John Marsden, who I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with in the rainforest at a writing workshop. He said to me, the first thing you need to do, is finish something. Get that first draft done. Don’t worry about how good or terrible it is, don’t go back and edit anything, just finish the thing from beginning to end. Then you have something to work with.
It sounds simple enough, but the process of finishing a draft of a manuscript is harder than it sounds. It requires discipline and dedication to your writing. Don’t wait for permission by your family or friends. Make a promise to yourself to dedicate regular time each week that’s just for writing. I wrote Mystica Books 1 and 2 while my very young children were taking their day time nap. Some days it would only be for twenty minutes, some days it would be 2-3 hours (if I was super lucky!). Whatever your schedule is, find some time to set aside for your writing. If you don’t take it seriously, no one else will.
Happy reading (and writing) everyone, until next time,
Love and Light
Danielle x
